WELCOME TO OUR VERY FRIENDLY GROUP (2010)

This NEW news letter is intended to let you know what we do, who we now help and how you can get involved and help us to help Babies and young children with profound needs

A bit about me! Im aunty Jane founder of the group. Iv been married to ken for 38 years, we have 2 grown up pest’s ooops I mean children, 7 darling grand children and 3 cats. We live in the pretty city of York in the UK… I started this wonderful crafting group after seeing a program on TV, which reminded me of my earlier happy years working with children with profound needs. …It’s a long story but basically the school couldn’t get bibs and blankets for their darling children so I stepped in and started crafting them for the children …later when I joined the internet I started our internet group which has grown and developed so much that We now have around 200 members from all walks of life and from all around the world, designing, crafting, cross stitching knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting and card making all for our needy babies and young children all around the world …

A bit about the groups of children we now help:

Starting with the angels

Our angel boxes of love go out to the hospitals and the darling babies who born too early don’t always make it to be loved here on earth…more later.

Next comes our little boxes of love

These little boxes of love go all over the world and are designed to help new and needy parents with taking their premature or sick baby home for the first time…. more later

Last but not least come’s our blankets and bibs of love:
These larger bibs, blankets and lap quilts go where ever they are needed most: at present we are working on bibs and quilts for hob moor oaks and quilts for a project called frimhurst in the Lowestoft area.

WHO WE HELP AND WHY

Our Angel boxes of love

These boxes filled with tiny hand made blankets, pockets, gowns, romper suits, sleeping bags, buntings, hats, and tiny teddies go out to the hospitals and the darling angel babies who born too early don’t always make it to be loved here on earth…the teddy bears are designed one for the baby and one as a memory for parents who often don’t have time to think about dressing their little angel (we make these as pretty as possible because single photographs are often the only memory of an angel baby)

Our little boxes of love

These little boxes of love are filled with LOVE and both bought and hand crafted garments including a knitted blanket, nappy, nappy pin and pants, a sleep-suit, vest, day outfit, cardigan, hat, bootees, baby soap and face cloth and a teddy bear or little jelly baby hug !!

Filled with love there boxes go all over the world includingthe uk, Romania and South Africa and are designed to help new and needy parents with taking their premature or sick baby home for the first time

Next our bibs and aprons
Our bibs and aprons, designed by myself and using cross stitched bands are used mainly at lunch times to cover and protect the children’s clothing… designer lucie Heaton has kindly designed several foody cross stitch charts for these bands for us thank you lucie xxxx

Last but not least come our quilts and lap quilts

Our children’s quilts, classroom quilts and lap quilts are designed to give a little bit of comfort just when its most needed… these are made up from either knitted or cross stitched squares all donated by crafters and often designed especially for stitch for pleasure stitch for charity and stitched by both members and non members of our group
Still interested? Thank you

HOW CAN I HELP?

Being a non-profit group we survive on donations of all kinds …this doesn’t mean that we are asking for your money but it does mean that we will need your help to supply the materials needed to make these garments and blankets…this is how you come in ……

There are several ways you can help us …

1. . The first is by joining our group and chatting to us, we welcome new group members and will help you in any way that we can

2. The second way you can help is by donating your finished stitching and knitting for us to box up and send out to where its most needed

3. The third way you can help is by donating stamps both new and used, the new stamps greatly help with postage costs

4. The forth way you can help is by donating wool or fabrics for our crafters to use…if you don’t need it and its suitable for babies and young children then we can use it …

5. The fifth way you can help is by designing charts and making garments for us to use these need to be copyright free or with written permission for us to use

6. The sixth way you can help is by word of mouth, tell people where we are and how much we need your help

How we can help you

Once you have decided that you would like to help us we can then help you to get started as we often have spare charts, yarns, fabrics and patterns ….its important that you understand that we can only help group members as supplies are often limited ….its really not nice if you join the group get the goodies and then do a disappearing act.

What’s most needed

This is often the first question asked by new group members

We are always in need of the following items.

Cross stitched squares measuring 6x6 inches or 10x10 inches, these can be either even weave or aida and any count ….we prefer white, cream or light colours please

please look on the themes board for the the themes we are presently stitching

·Knitted squares 6x6 inches or 22x22 inches if your brave .we have simple patterns for these just ask

·Knitted angel and baby garments, any baby colours and either 4ply or double knitting we have patterns if needed

·Knitted tiny teddy bears or jelly baby hugs....we have patterns if needed please ask

· Buttons, lace and ribbons for the garments
